Retour sur l'œuvre d'un artiste liégeois majeur. Véritable pionnier de l'art vidéo. Jacques Louis Nyst, décédé en 1996, demeure une référence incontournable et des plus actuelles. Depuis son décès en 1996, le travail de Jacques Louis Nyst a fait l'objet de plusieurs manifestations et expositions. Publié en, à l'occasion d'une rétrospective à Liège, un ouvrage signé Marc Renwart lui rend hommage de la manière la plus complète qui soit. Alors, pourquoi une nouvelle exposition à La Châtaigneraie? Il ne nous a pas paru inutile de redonner un coup d'éclairage sur cet artiste liégeois majeur, tant il est vrai que nous vivons dans un monde où tout s'accélère, où tout s'oublie trop vite. Pionnier de l'art vidéo et fondateur de l'atelier d'art vidéo à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Liège, en 1977. Jacques Louis Nyst s'est toujours montré intéressé par les interactions entre les supports de l'expression artistique, les relations entre la photographie, la peinture, l'écriture, le cinéma, la vidéo. C'est tout naturellement qu'il a participé aux travaux du groupe Cap (Cercle d'Art Prospectif), avec notamment Jacques Lennep, Jacques Lizène, Pierre Courtois, Jean-Pierre Ransonnet ... Ensemble, dès le début des années 70, ils ont développé le principe manifeste d'un art relationnel.
